Well, when your gremlins say you’re only valuable if you’re producing something, going back to bed is impossible, which is why I don't do it.
But this time I did and I think Jesus was right there, saying “that’s right darling, you don’t have to do one more thing to be worth loving."
When I rest, I remember that.
What you believe about yourself and the world is your broadcast, and people who hold similar views will be attracted to you and tune in.
That's sometimes not great news because your consciousness yesterday is your broadcast today and until you change it, you will rerun the same show forever. Do you like that show?
So if you can’t figure out why people in your life are so negative or judgmental, or why they walk all over you; or why you struggle to build relationships with healthy, positive people, watch your own broadcast.
Three-time NYT Bestselling Author Bob Goff, at some point, wanted to write a book but wasn’t sure he could.
A question I ask my coaching clients all the time is this:
“When you scroll, who makes you jealous?
Whatever that person is doing is likely what you wish you were doing.
The thing most of us don’t get about failure is that it’s a necessary part of any meaningful endeavor, and it’s usually survivable.
So here’s the secret: When you fail and keep going, it’s not a failure, it’s a lesson that helps you do it differently next time.
Does that seem basic? That’s because it is.
I promise I’m not being cavalier with your pain or struggle. I’m giving you a wise strategy to fight despair and be the leader that we need you to be.
It takes no creativity to watch the news and collapse under the weight of the worst. It’s paralyzing, and we ain't got time for that.
So be furious at our government, or the way people are behaving or terrified at what may come next for your business or your family. Get mad, then get up.
AND CHOOSE HOW YOU WILL LEAD YOURSELF AND YOUR PEOPLE THROUGH IT.
Most of us, when eyeballing the second half of our lives and the blank canvas it can present, will try to control for every possible outcome before we begin, because we’re afraid.
Ok cool, but you can’t control for step 26 when you haven’t taken step one.
BECAUSE YOU CAN’T FIX NOTHING.
Remember, the purpose of the news is not just to inform you, it’s also to startle and scare you, so you keep watching. Manage your intake.
Yes. The riots and looting are wicked and they must stop. It is nothing but pain on pain and it won't work. Einstein said you cannot solve a problem with the same level of thinking that created it.
AND ... There are legions of people protesting peacefully, which is our right under the First Amendment.
AND ... Right now, there are people working for peace, justice, progress, and reconciliation, who will never make the news: Cops. Firemen. Pastors. Mothers. Shop owners. Accountants etc.
Blessed are they, Jesus said.
For example, a friend of mine used to tell his wife when she was feeling mopey to put on her red lipstick, get up, and go stir around a little.
What he was saying is get out of your head and into your body; do something that feels good.
A state change is simply that, a deliberate change in how you’re showing up to your life right now. Remembering to do it is the key.
There is magic and holy terror in finally saying, 'The heck with it," ripping off your clothes and jumping in that freezing river, letting it take where it wants.
And maybe it's swift and deep, full of boulders and falls but that’s how you become a strong swimmer. Plus, it’s exhilarating, even if you do lose your shoes.
So if you’re pursuing your life purpose or learning how to build a happy second half, do yourself a favor and recognize that control is an illusion. Stop worrying about step 26 and take step one.
Sometimes we have to take several stabs at a new habit, especially if they are big ones like cutting out sugar, becoming a non-smoker, or going gluten-free because we’re confronting life-long emotional and physical addictions.
But if we keep stabbing, eventually we kill those suckers.
