SMR Day Seven - Change Your State

What do you do when you’re feeling flat and down?

You've done what you know (gratitude, meditation, prayer) but there’s a lingering bummer.

It’s ok, it happens, but here’s one of my favorite hacks.

STATE CHANGE

For example, a friend of mine used to tell his wife when she was feeling mopey to put on her red lipstick, get up, and go stir around a little.

What he was saying is get out of your head and into your body; do something that feels good.

A state change is simply that, a deliberate change in how you’re showing up to your life right now. Remembering to do it is the key.

How?

I have a playlist I call the soundtrack of awesome with songs that if you hear them at a party, you set your drink down and move to the floor. You have to. It's a moral imperative.

Beyonce.
Bruno.
Stevie.
Cardi.
Florence and the Machine.
Janelle Monae….

You get the idea.

When I put it on, I walk faster, I run with more joy, dance in my living room like a fool. Whatever was happening before evaporates and I’m back in my body, with my blood pumping.

Sometimes, I even add the red lipstick.

So next time you’re mopey and stuck. Move your body and shift your state. See what happens.
