SMR Day Two - To Know and Not To Do.

A couple of weeks ago, my coach @MastinKipp was coaching me through something tricky when I said to him, "Yes, Mastin I know that but…"

He stopped me saying, "No, I don't think you know it. I think you've heard it before, and there's a difference.”

That is why change feels so hard. I think I'm doing the work, but really I'm just observing it and intellectualizing it while tricking myself into believing I'm actually doing it.

Joyce Meyer, another favorite teacher of mine puts it like this:

"We're educated well beyond our level of obedience."

Personal development is simple really, because there are thousands of great principles to choose from. You pick a few, preferably small ones, and start building them into your life until they become habits like showering or brushing your teeth.

Action + Repitition + Time = Result.

So when someone says to me, "Oh yah gratitude journal, I know that, what else ya got?”

“Nothing,” I reply. "Because if you're not doing that, every day, soaking in gratitude, overdosing on it, letting it work its spiritual magic in your mind and soul, why would you train any other transformative habit?

I'm not being mean, I’m telling you the truth, just like Mastin was telling it to me.

You have to train habits just like you train muscles, but we are a magic-bullet culture, which is why so many people sell magic bullets. We want the transformation to come in a pill, and I'm sorry, it doesn't.

Personal transformation comes as a result of getting clear about want you want and having the courage and discipline to structure your life around the idea.
