It's Time to Master The Fear & Anxiety

By and large, we have homes, vehicles, full bellies, educated minds, freedom to move about and resources beyond imagining for most of the world.

So if it isn't up to us to MASTER OUR FEAR AND ANXIETY and get busy bringing justice, mercy, love and service to our neighborhoods and the world. Who is it up to?

This Too Is A Choice

Here's what I know for sure:

The subconscious mind is a garden. The conscious mind is the sower. Our thoughts are the seeds. Whatever you plant, you grow. You cannot think anxious, cynical, fearful thoughts all day long and expect to grow tranquility, contentment and abundance in your garden. There is no place in the natural or spiritual world where that is true. What a man sows, he reaps. Your thoughts are yours alone. So what are you sowing?

What the Deep End Will Cost You

Besides good rehab, regular accountability and Jesus, the thing that helped Andy most was actively serving someone else. You see, when the enemy can keep us obsessively focused on our own lives, he can worry us into paralysis.

But God wants us striding into places we can't see, following his voice. It's not that my worries are irrational - no they're pretty legit - but through Andy, I felt the Lord saying: "I know. Keep going. Don't Quit. You take care of someone else and let me take care of you."

So in case you've got the same problem this morning, here's my list of things that need taking care of way more than my my crazy-pants nighttime behavior does.

Why Give Something Up For Lent?

Every morning when I walk by my coffee pot, I experience actual physical longing. So I whine and count the days until Easter when I can have it back.

But every time the longing hits, I imagine the fully divine Jesus, stuck here for 33 years trying to teach limited, harassed, confused, arrogant, stubborn humans like me how to live. How he must have counted the minutes until Easter.

A Word to You Non-Mothers

For most of my life the controlling narrative has been Be Awesome. Need Nothing. Even as I dragged myself through a disastrous miscarriage, I didn't ask for help. I also scolded myself for being selfish: "Who are you to be so sad, when other people are suffering so much worse. Think about Syria!"

But both of those are bullshit lies.

What Do You Need to Celebrate?

Sensing an imbalance, my life coach recently asked how I might celebrate all this hard work and discipline. I told him I wanted to get a facial. That was three weeks ago and I've not done it. The hard work always trumps it.

Like there are more important things to do than get a facial.

Like I may not deserve the indulgence.

Like it's ok to keep promises I make to everyone else, and break them to myself.

Struggling to be Mindful?

At it's worst, my mind is an automated label factory, categorizing people and events without my input. "That sucks...That's awesome...He's an idiot...I'm an idiot. etc."  In a split second, I just read the label affixed to people and situations and react, without questioning if they're true.

I do this hundreds of times a day. You probably do too and often about yourself.

"I'm not good enough."
"I'm a fraud."
"They're going to find me out."

Just Start Walking

Again and again, God repeats his promise to help us, to extend his righteous right hand to go before us, to make a way, where there seems no way. He promises to do that for anyone who asks, but if we remain hermetically sealed inside a world we can easily handle, we never give him the chance to prove it.

If you're bored with your life, it might be that you're twiddling your thumbs inside a life you finished crafting long ago. Quit redecorating it. Knock some walls out. Or maybe even sell it and move.

Demolish Your Way to a Better Story

I am celebrating my 7th birthday into this awake and interesting life. I tell you all this because my friend April interviewed me for her podcast, which came out yesterday. In it I talk a lot about April 21st and what it means to me. The timing of the podcast, to me, is just God poking his head in to remind me, He loves me and that I was smart to trust him in this process.

I write because I want the same same freedom, vibrancy and hope for you. That's the purpose of Girl Catch Fire, so that you to might discover the God who created you so you can figure out what he created you for.

And then go do it.
