How To Live a Very Good Life

Spring is blooming in Northwest Florida, and every morning at dawn, I search for what emerged overnight.

It started with the magnolias: Entire trees crowded with blush-pink globes. Before I moved to the south, I’d never smelled a magnolia. If you get the chance, do it. The smell is impossible to describe.

Then the azaleas came. Then the wisteria, and now the baby citrus trees that Sam gave me for Christmas are covered in little white buds that perfume my whole yard.

I’m paying attention to the flowers this year for a specific reason.

I want to live a good life.

I used to think my good life lived on the other side of my next achievement or benchmark in my business. So I’d run as hard as I could, making if/then promises to myself and others. If this happens then I’ll …

Of course, when I’d hit my goal, I’d grab a popsicle to celebrate, and eat it while plotting out some bigger more ambitious goal. I mean seven new clients is good, but it’s not ten…That kind of thing. Can I get an amen?

Here’s what I know for sure:

There are lots of reasons I drive myself so hard - perhaps you do the same - but wise, free women get to the bottom of that well asap, because it’s for freedom He set us free. We ought not be slaves to our made-up stories.

Ultimately, a good life is nothing more than a series of days, deliberately made good. One after the other, strung together like pearls on a necklace, until after a few years, we look back at what is, in fact, a very good life.

But it starts now. Today. Not after your next win.

I’m writing today from a coffee shop on the cliffs, overlooking Pensacola Bay. I have other things to do, certainly, but the most important thing I can do right now is to create a good day. Then tomorrow I’ll create another one. Then another. Just stringing my necklace.

That’s why I am taking a small group of smart women to France this summer for a five-day life coaching intensive.

Of course, we’re going to accelerate our personal development there using the very best tools in my kit, and I’m excited about that, but you know what else we’ll do?

String a few good days together, made out of good day ingredients.

We’ll climb to high places and sit with the sun on our faces. We’ll reconnect with the still small voice inside of us - the expert on the good life. We’ll move our bodies through space together and stop whenever we want for pastries and coffee or champagne and gelato.

Or we might spend hours in the grass pictured below, gazing at the Bossons Glacier, in silence or laughter or tears. I don’t know, but it will be rich and real and good. Five more pearls on your life’s necklace.

Do you need to go with us? We have three spaces left. You can find all the info here.

See I don’t want to get to the end of my life and congratulate myself for how hard I worked. I want to look back at the work and the adventures, the people, the joy the sorrow and know that I lived all of it as fully and presently as I could.

Someday and soon aren’t on the calendar. There is only now.

The 2019 Chamonix Life Coaching Intensive is June 16-21, 2019 and is open to only eight women. Five of the spaces are sold. For more information click here.
